It’s the most wonderful time of the year as the song goes…
Christmas and the New Year are (and certainly should be) be a time to enjoy yourself and have fun.
But it’s important that during the party season, amid the eggnog and kisses under the mistletoe, your sexual health is not compromised. Knowing you are prepared with your condoms, both physically having them with you and mentally knowing what you are going to do, are crucial factors for having safe sex this Christmas. Make sure you have enough in stock to last the whole holiday season!
Alcohol can really reduce your inhibitions, resulting in you making choices and taking risks you wouldn't normally take, there's a few tips and information here
- Half of women risk unwanted pregnancy at Christmas
- One in 6 women have forgotten to take the Pill because they were drunk
- One in 7 have forgotten because they were distracted by the festivities
- One in 6 have missed taking the Pill for a few days because they struggled to see a doctor to get a repeat prescription during the Christmas period.
There’s loads of advice and guidelines out there for having a safe and happy festive season, so take a look and then go out there and party the night away.
And if your contraception fails or you have unprotected sex over the party season, don't panic - help is available.
Even if your nearest clinic or GP surgery is closed, you can go to an NHS walk-in centre or an A&E department for emergency contraception, PEP and advice and testing if you're worried about STIs.
Finally, remember, it's always OK to say no if you don't want to have sex with someone. Nobody has the right to make you go further than you want to.
So here’s to a fantastic Christmas and a HEALTHY and happy 2016.
